The brand new 125mph Class 222 Pioneer trains recently unveiled by Hull Trains owe their sleek, stylish new livery and upholstery design to Isle’s Hull-based partners, Lee & Isle.

The agency, which has been a key partner in the development of Hull Trains’ advertising and marketing communications strategy for some 3 years including the Class 222 launch campaign, was a lead member of the design panel tasked with creating the livery and interior colour scheme for the new fleet.

Explaining the rationale behind the new-look livery, Barry Lee, Managing Director of Lee & Isle, said: “Above all, the brand imagery reflects the service values and unique attributes of Hull Trains. A blend of classical and modern concepts, the livery features gold and green lines that accentuate the dynamic styling of the driving cabs. These clean flowing lines are seamlessly carried through to the carriages.”

The agency was also required to exercise great care in ensuring that its design complied with the requirements of the Rail Vehicle Accessibility regulations. This included particular attention to the visibility of the critical lower edges of the passenger doors.

Mark Leving, Hull Trains’ Managing Director said: “Interior and exterior design may represent a small percentage of our £24 million investment in the new fleet, but it’s a very important part of the total package. Lee & Isle, together with Atkins Rail who were largely responsible for the interior design, have done a super job in ensuring that our new trains look the part and create the right impression with our customers.”

Hull Trains’ new Class 222 Pioneer trains will go into service between Hull and London from June 2005.
